The Ferment of the Late ’70s: VD, Anita and Disco
The late 1970’s marked a period of responses and engagements that nationalized the gay liberation movement on a new level. Though looking at responses to the spread of VD among gay men, Anita Bryant and the Save Our Children campaign, and the phenomena of disco, “Ferment of the Late 70s” explores how these played a part in laying foundations for being able to respond to developments in LGBTQ life and politics the 1980s and beyond.
Games We Play
Continuing through November 2017 in the Library Reading Room, Games We Play highlights LGBTQ-themed board and trivia games that began being produced in the 1980s. These include C’est La Vie, a lesbian version of LIFE where the goal is to get to the Lovely Lesbian Retirement Villa, Gay Weekend, where the player goes around the board picking up tricks, Gay Monopoly where players can buy streets in various gay neighborhoods around the county and instead of buying houses or hotels, the players purchase bars and bathhouses. Trivia games include Gay Trivia, D.Y.K.E. (Do You Know Enough) and That’s So Gay. The exhibit includes a brochure of trivia questions for you to take and share with others.
