The “Q: Activism on the Margins of Identity” exhibit, which opened in September 2020 and will run through March 2021, focuses on a new wave of advocacy that sweep through queer communities in Chicago and across the country in the 1990s.
Emerging as an outgrowth of the AIDS pandemic and the activism it brought forth, the 1990s saw a new wave of advocacy sweep through queer communities in Chicago and across the country. Political hostility, gay-for-pay media representation, and ongoing threats of physical violence pushed queer identities to the margins of society. Embracing otherness, they discovered strength in radical activism and artistic expression, transforming the concept of Queer.
On Tuesday, December 8, 6:30 pm. there will be a virtual tour of the exhibit and a panel on the exhibit and the topic of queer activism in the 1990s with the curators of the exhibit, James Conley, Kurt Conley, Chase Ollis, Veronica Rodriguez, and Whit Sadusky.
